What we collect

Information you give us

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and username. Membership is free and there is no paid tier, so we never collect payment information of any kind.

If you talk to Harper, our AI guide, we don’t collect or store what you say, unless you're a signed-in member with Harper's memory on — you can see and delete those conversations any time. See “Harper and your conversations” below.

Information we collect automatically

When you use SoberSphere, we automatically collect:

• Device and browser information such as your browser type, operating system, and screen size
• Usage data such as pages you visit, guides you read, buttons you click, and how long you spend on different parts of the site
• Session recordings that capture how you interact with pages (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling) to help us improve the experience
• Log data such as your IP address, access times, and referring pages

Information from third parties

If you sign up using Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from those services. We don’t receive your password.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Run your account and provide the platform
• Personalize your experience
• Send you account-related emails (confirmations, password resets)
• Understand how people use the platform so we can make it better
• Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security threats
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information to:

• Sell your personal data to third parties
• Target you with ads
• Share your identity with treatment programs. SoberSphere does not rank, recommend or refer treatment centers, so there is no one to share it with
• Make clinical diagnoses or treatment recommendations

Harper and your conversations

Harper is an AI guide for a first conversation about alcohol, drugs, or recovery. It is not a therapist or medical provider, and it does not diagnose. You don’t need an account to talk to Harper. Here’s how we handle Harper conversations:

Storage: We don't store your conversations, unless you're a signed-in member with Harper's memory on — you can see and delete those conversations any time. Otherwise, what you say stays in your browser tab, and when you close the tab, it's gone. If you’re not signed in, or your memory is off, we keep no transcript, and there is nothing for us to read later.

Harper’s memory, for signed-in members: When you’re signed in, “Harper remembers our conversations” is on unless you turn it off, so a conversation is still there when you come back. Harper keeps your conversations under your account, where only you can see them, and reads your recent ones so you don’t have to explain everything again. You can read or delete any of them under Things you keep on your page. Turning memory off deletes everything kept and stops keeping. Conversations Harper keeps are never shared with a treatment program and never used for analytics.

Crisis moments: If what someone says suggests a crisis, Harper leads with crisis resources (like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline). When that happens, we keep a minimal safety record: when it happened and what kind of crisis it was. It never includes what was said — no conversation content, ever. We also count how many times Harper points someone to a crisis line. That tally is a number and nothing else — no names, no identities.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

• Keep you signed in
• Remember your preferences
• Understand how you use the platform
• Prevent fraud and abuse

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies will prevent you from signing in.

We do not serve ads on SoberSphere. We do not use tracking pixels from ad networks. We do not share your data with advertisers.

Your choices

Access your data: You can view your account information in Settings anytime.

Delete your account: You can request account deletion by emailing privacy@sobersphere.com. We will delete your account and associated data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data (like overall usage statistics) may remain because it can’t be tied back to you.

Opt out of session recordings: Email privacy@sobersphere.com and we will exclude your account from session replay.

Email preferences: You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in any email we send. We will still send account-critical emails (password resets, membership changes).

Data security

We protect your data using:

• HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Encryption at rest for our database
• Row-level security policies that prevent users from accessing each other’s data
• API keys stored as environment variables, never in code
• Regular security reviews of our codebase

No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

Data retention

• Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of an account deletion request.
• Harper conversations are stored only for signed-in members with Harper’s memory on, and kept until you delete them, turn memory off, or delete your account. Otherwise they are not stored, so there is nothing to retain. The minimal crisis safety records explained above contain no conversation content.
• Usage analytics are anonymized and aggregated and retained indefinitely because they cannot be tied to individuals.

Children’s privacy

SoberSphere is not designed for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at privacy@sobersphere.com and we will delete it.

California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect and how we use it
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

We do not sell personal information. To exercise these rights, email privacy@sobersphere.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on the platform. Your continued use of SoberSphere after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
