Running From Scratch
You don't need to be a runner to start running. A couch-to-5K approach designed for people rebuilding their relationship with their body.
11 min readWhy this matters in recovery
Finding activities that engage your mind and body is one of the most effective ways to build a sober life you actually enjoy. This isn't about distraction — it's about discovering what interests you when alcohol isn't making the decisions.
The skills and habits you build here become part of your new identity. They fill time, create routine, and give you something to talk about that isn't recovery. That matters more than people realize.
Getting Started
The hardest part is starting. You don't need expertise, expensive gear, or a perfect plan. You just need to begin. Give yourself permission to be bad at something new — that's where growth happens.
Set a small goal for this week. Not a life-changing commitment — just one concrete action. The momentum builds from there.
Making It Stick
Consistency matters more than intensity. Showing up three times a week beats one epic session followed by nothing. Build it into your routine the way drinking used to be — same time, same trigger, different action.
Tell someone what you're doing. Accountability doesn't have to be formal — just mentioning it to a friend or posting about it online creates a gentle external motivation that helps on the days when internal motivation is low.
